Windy Sunday

Good morning. 8AM: -11 Celsius, moderate breeze (around -20 Celsius wind chill factor), overcast, fair visibility. Low pressure system moving through, wind is expected all day. We had about 2cm of snow last night.

Around Svartfjell

Late update! Sorry, it has been very busy here, lot of people arriving this weekend. 2PM: -10 Celsius, light breeze, light snow fall on and off. We had about 5cm of new snow in the last 24hours. Trails are covered again, but we work on cutting them. Just a couple of pictures from yesterday, making our way around the beautiful Svartfjellet peak. First people out on the trails. We had limited visibility and light snow fall all day, but it was lovely. In the past few weeks there have been a lot of animal tracks around including lynx, wolf (one wolf was around Hundorp area, about 30km from us), fox, elk and hare. Weather forecast: expecting more snow (light) and wind tomorrow, possibly sunny from Monday on.

Friday

8AM: Good morning. -12 Celsius, light air, cloudy, but good visibility. Seems like we might have some extra snow coming tomorrow and Sunday, could be up to 15cm total. If you are coming up this weekend, dont forget to bring your winter driving skills too.

Tour to Forbundsfjellet

We set out around 9AM in the freshly cut trails and skied around Kyrkjegardsfjellet and reached Lauvasaa where we started cutting our own tracks up to Forbundsfjellet. The Sun was trying hard to brake through the thick fog, but could not manage, so we had limited visibility from the summit. Despite the condition we had, we still really enjoyed our tour.

Foggy Thursday

Good morning! 8AM: -11 Celsius, light air, foggy, low visibility. Today we have a tour towards the southern parts of Venabygdfjellet, having a look at Forbundsfjellet. Since we have only local fog we hope that we could climb above it and have a good panorama. I almost forgot to mention that we had an extra 7cm of snow from the last 24 hours.

Wednesday

8AM: -12 Celsius, overcast but good visibility, light breeze. Low pressure system approaching, wea re expecting light snow fall today. Trails are in good condition.

Tour to Muen

We started around 9:30AM and moved towards Muen taking the trails up to Mykroken and cut accross the open area before we reached the foot of the mountain. Seemed like a good idea to take our skis off there and walk up to the summit. The snow was in mixed condition, lots of icier bits and some parts deeper snow with crusty layer on it. The weather was holding, but we had a cold start with northerly wind biting our faces (windchill close to -25/-30 Celsius), then just before we made a decision to turn around it stopped. The summit was rather windy and there was not much time to spare, took few pictures (the reindeer tracks were visible, but no sign of the herds) and decended. On the way back we passed Grohogdbu and made our way back through Forestadseter and luckily enough we were witnessing the beautiful sunset behind Dynjefjell.

Colder start

8AM: Good morning! -17 Celsius, light breeze(still from the north), change is expected later on, might be cloudy this afternoon and looking ahead we might have some snow tomorrow. Two tours today: We attempting a tour up to Muen(approx.22km) and one to Masaplasen(25km), both of them are mainly off piste all day tours.

Around Veslefjellet

We had a little tour around Veslefjellet, which was just great again. Enjoying the sunshine, light breeze and the remoteness. This time of the year is one of the best in the whole season, since there are less people around and the lights are fantastic. Temperature warmed up as I was expecting that (-5,5 Celsius), but now it is back again on -11 Celsius. Looking at the weather in the UK, maybe we should export some snow from there :). I hope you are all enjoying it over there or you are already planning putting out a sign: The carpark is full :) I guess 15-30cm of snow in one day would cause very similar problems anywhere around the world, the only difference is how quickly people can adapt to it.

Monday

Another sunny day. -10 Celsius, light breeze. The weather men at yr.com must be on vacation since the temperatures are wrong(should be -17 Celsius here now) on their charts, not only here also on Kvitfjell too (it is -2 Celsius there instead of -17Celsius). Anyway we should not complain, it is still subzero and wonderful.
