Winter feeling

It feels like I have just returned at the right moment. It looks great having both the autumn colours and the snowy winter elements in our surroundings. Unfortunately it is not enough snow to prepare our tracks, but if you are a real enthusiastic skier I am sure you could find some very good areas above the vegetation line where you could ski freely (watch out for streams and rivers).
It was minus 10 Celsius this morning and our day was just beautiful: sunny and crisp. Not much precipitation is forecasted for the next few days, but temperatures should stay close to zero.
As you know our hotel is running on a low season mode now until December, but we have 3-day seminar coming up next week, which is part of a 1 year long -part time tour leader- study run by HIL, Lillehammer. Our hotel is hosting all 4 seminars from Oct 2009 until Aug 2010 and the study is in nature based tourism and tour leading. We really hope that we can educate more people about the environment we live in, so we can all pass that knowledge on to others. I feel honoured to be included in this study as a lecturer. I keep you updated with new reports and pictures.

Weather update

Winter is now here to stay.
Last 24 hours we got 9 cm snow, and temperatures between -5 and -1, so it is quite clear that the grass will not be seen until beginning of May 2010.

Robert is also back from his stay in the US so now we are both able to update when when something is happening.

End of summer season.

Today we closed the hotel for some weeks. But as you can see, we also got some snow.
The last 24 hours we got 13 cm soft powder snow, and it will continue to snow next week.

There will be some weekends where we will have some different arrangements, but in the weekdays it will be closed. The winter season starts 20Dec.

First snowfall this winter season

Today it came a few centimeters of soft snow. First it started as hail and turned later into soft snow. It's not often that we get snow in september, and this won't stay very long. It is still quite warm weather, with temperatures up till +8 degrees during daytime. So the real huge amounts of snow will not come for another few weeks.

Last week of walking in 2009

This week we had an organized walking program in co-operation with Norske Bygdeopplevelser and Vi over 60. It was an easier program compared to what we normally do, with Dørdalen and Mya on monday, Trabelifjell and Forbundsfjell on tuesday, Sollia on wednesday and Svartfjell and Dynjefjell on thursday. With a farwell dinner on thursday eve.

The weather was brilliant, with a few showers only. And we sang along all the way.

We were lucky with all the colours too, as we were progressing the week, there were less and less colours so now there are almost no colours anymore.

And now there are no more organized walks until mid june 2010.

By the way, the horses are gone too. They will be back around june 2010, as the summer holiday starts....

Autumn start

Good morning. I can not believe it is already September, maybe it is just me but the time is running faster nowadays :) Last night we had some rough weather, hail, lightning and lots of rain. Looking out of my window now, it seems to be settled and we might have some sunny days ahead of us. It is time to enjoy the colours and proper visibility, it has been a while I have seen Muen :)
Our summer season is almost over, I will be out for a few weeks again preparing for the winter season. Please keep checking the blog.

More mixed weather

Good morning. 8AM: +4,6 Celsius, light breeze, rain. It says it all: bit colder and still raining on and off. Feels like those monsoon days in India except the 30 Celsius temperature difference :)
Colours are changing, when we have visibility we can see the Autumn colours coming out. Still some cloudberrys (molte) to pick, but time is running out...

Wet summer continues

Good day for everyone. We are back on waterproof gear testing. Fog, clouds, rain and mixed visibility are on the menu today, but no complaints. 11 Celsius, light air. You are not late to test your Gore Tex equipment, few more days like this are on the way :)

Monday, 24 August 2009

Sunshine, fog, drizzle, rain, hail, etc.

All weather conditions in the last few days even some frost. We saw some wildlife too: eagle, buzzard, moose, reindeer.

Welcome back!

Sorry about the long silence, it has been busy here and I was away on an overseas "mission". As I heard it has been colder than usual here and with lot of rain too. Tours were running smoothly and people enjoyed their stay here at Venabygdfjellet and there are more to come.
Temperature range between 2-16 Celsius, rain, fog, sunny spells. Enjoy these few pictures from the last days.
